To begin with, what is the phenomenon we call the flow of time? Does it exist and how to measure it? Our interaction with it consumes every moment, however long it feels individually. We use the idea of time to measure movements, change and even communicate. It is so engraved in our societal duties, it is rare to someone questioning it’s meaning. Let’s tap into more detail!
Time as a linear, non linear concept
There are a few speculations, ideas or however you might want to call it. From the scientific standpoint and the mystical world view from the old alchemical tradition. Let’s try to explain a few of them:
- Time is a linear concept. It literally means that you can only choose one path and everything moves forward in one sequence. You cannot choose two options when deciding yes or no questions, or you will end up in the middle of nowhere, that is called indecisiveness. However, when we have multiple options for that moment, we come to a conclusion that it is also true, because you cannot eat, drink, walk and read at the same time. Theoretically you could, but that takes a lot of controls and skill, and we are very limited on how far that extends.
- Time is a non linear concept. Mostly everything in nature is non linear. That means we can have multiple options at the same time, even though we can only choose limited answers as a linear concept suggests. It moves into the invisible abstract world view when deciding the outcome of our choice. If the situation is that you have to take a bus to work or else you will be late, and that results in linear outcome, this method suggests to look over the physical outcomes. Non linear result would be that if you miss the bus, you will not necessarily miss the work. You might notice the taxi, or another bus just in time to replace that one. As long as you have your clear goal in mind, non linear time flow would have many different variables and choices that come with the flow of life.
Time as a cyclic, dual and spiral concept
Time is spiral and cyclic. That is a very common model. It suggests that the time runs in cycles, repeating itself over the years and accelerates faster and faster over the centuries.
The easy explanation is that in our lives, when we have to deal with the problems, and choose to ignore them – somewhere in the future, we will have to deal with them anyway.
Now that we are aware of the concept, it is possible to deal with the problems straightforward so we will not have to meet them again, usually in the bigger form. If we eliminate the root while it is still young, we will not have to fight the dragon and fear the future.
How to measure the flow of time?
You are most probably very knowledged to answer this question yourself. But let’s try to put some ideas to clear some things out.
The most popular opinion is that we can measure time in motion of all that there is – atoms, molecules, or even bigger collections of them just like people, clouds and weather. That is when transforming from one shape to another there has to be a period for the molecule to split and join, split again, until it forms the new shape. Same goes with anything else and it allows interaction to help it shape itself within some given rules.
As well as it is the truth, motion also applies to the feelings of human being – we are also transforming. That we call an emotion. We do things according to our emotions, and feel in some way the right or wrong, the love or passion and maybe sadness. It is also the transformation of the motion, which goes with the time. That is why we say that the time heals wounds best, because it takes some period for change to occur, while on microscopic perspective it takes years, we feel it as a few weeks or so.
So that way we progress through life and we can measure history and all the events. That is one way to measure time and make it useful for us. However, there is always a possibility that the time does not exist, and it is just a name for the motion and constant change (or exchange) of the energy through which we transform. From matter to nothing and vice versa.
A few more words about the flow of time
However it may feel like, the concept of time is an useful tool for our world interface, traveling through fourth dimensional space and time giving names to objects and cycles of the earth.
It might be the only thing that matters. Philosophy and science only helps to find alternatives to these immovable phenomena and help us determine the best way to progress through life.
History repeats itself, and linear time events can be shown to be true. Everything exists at once if you are able to change the perspective and the framework of your mind. A moment for one can last an infinity – time transforms life.
